Safety is critical for an inclusive workplace where people can do their best work. This course empowers employees with the knowledge and skills needed to foster those safe, respectful workplaces where violence is not tolerated. It combines readings, self-reflections, and interactive prompts to help employees recognize behaviors that could constitute workplace violence, understand how to respond to those behaviors, and embrace the role they can play to create a safe workplace.

When supplemented with an employer-led training that addresses their specific Workplace Violence Prevention Plan and provides an opportunity for questions, this training satisfies the compliance requirements under California Labor Code Section 6401.9.

Introduction

Overview of the importance of preventing workplace violence and how safety furthers inclusion.

Reflection

Invitation to consider what makes a great work environment, and why.

Recognizing workplace violence

Defining workplace violence, including the four types of violence outlined in California Labor Code section 6401.9, and recognizing warning signs.

Preventing workplace violence

Actions for people who have experienced or witnessed violence. Includes instructions for reporting and seeking help.

Making personal commitments

Encouragement to reflect on why it’s important to the learner to foster inclusion and prevent violence, and strategies they will use to do so.

Equipping employers

Overview of employers’ unique role in fostering inclusion and preventing workplace violence.
